Collecting James Hilton
Hugely popular in his own era, James Hilton was the author of more than a dozen books, many of them bestsellers. He was also a highly successful screenwriter who won an Oscar for his work on William Wyler’s 1942 film Mrs. Miniver. Two of his novels, Goodbye, Mr. Chips and Lost Horizon, are considered classics, but they might not be remembered nearly as widely today except for the films based on them. Where did Hilton go?

The Remarkable Lattimore Family
In 1900, David Lattimore left his teaching job in Washington D. C. to accept an offer to teach in China, taking with him his wife and his amazing children, three of whom became world famous in very different disciplines.

Owen Lattimore was a travel writer, an expert on Chinese and Mongolian affairs, and the object of a notorious political witchhunt in the 1950s.

Eleanor Frances Lattimore was the author of more than 50 children’s books, including the classic Little Pear.

Richmond Lattimore was a poet, a renowned classical scholar and a translator of Ancient Greek literature. His work included the brilliant English-language verse rendering of Homer’s The Iliad.
