Rediscovering James Gould Cozzens
Time magazine carried a portrait of James Gould Cozzens on the cover of its September 2, 1957 issue, at a time the writer ranked with the best novelists of his formidable generation. Since then his star has begun to wobble in the literary universe. Is the reason simply that he has been denigrated as a political conservative? Or is it attributable to his solitary lifestyle? Whatever the reason, he is past due for rediscovery.

James Gould Cozzens: A Briefly Annotated Checklist
As might be expected, Cozzens’ early novels are difficult to find in first edition and in collector’s condition. The later ones are easily confused with book club volumes.

Collecting National Park Service Civil War Publications
More people collect books about the Civil War than any other event in American history. During the Civil War Centennial during the 1960s, scholars estimated that more than 40,000 volumes had been published on the subject. Who knows how many have been added in the last 50 years? An interesting source for collectors are the official publications of the National Park Service. These are fascinating!
