William Styron: The Making of a Writer
Styron was one of the handful of truly great writers of the post-World War Two generation. His native intelligence and wide-ranging interests led him in different directions. Each of his novels seems to have changed his image with the reading public. What unites them is the power of his language.

Collecting Richard Yates
Many critics called Yates “a writer’s writer,” well-meant but often unintentionally damning praise. His screenplay for William Styron’s Lie Down in Darkness was never produced because of studio politics. His masterpiece, Revolutionary Road, may bring him back to the public’s attention; DreamWorks recently announced its intention to film the story. Would Yates be pleased? We doubt it.
