The King Penguin books were small, beautifully designed and executed hardcovers published by Penguin Books, which is much better known for its paperbacks. The series debuted in 1939. When it ended in 1959, the King Penguin series included 75 titles, each an illustrated keepsake of a special project.

“If you really want to hear about him, the first thing you’ll want to know is where J. D. Salinger was born,…and all that David Copperfield kind of crap.” And all that Holden Caulfield kind of crap. All that and much more, including a checklist of Salinger’s first editions. Got a signed copy of The Catcher in the Rye?
