Ten Tough Edgars
In 1945, a group of mystery authors founded the Mystery Writers of America, Inc. for the avowed purpose of promoting the welfare of practitioners and increasing the esteem of this genre. Their yearly awards for merit are called Edgars. Some of the Best First Novel and Best Novel winners are scarce indeed. Finding a collector’s copy is as often as tough as the novel’s plot.

Booze, Babes and Bullets:
The Books of Jonathan Latimer

A mystery writer who emerged in the 1930s, Jonathan Latimer learned his craft as a newspaperman in Chicago. Mixing humor with violence, his William Crane novels are regarded as Golden Age classics. When he moved to Hollywood Latimer became a first-rate screenwriter.

Even More Neglected Noirs
Another group of noir novels and the films made from them. The choices we made for the March and June issues last year hardly exhausted the interesting but overlooked novels in the genre. We add another handful of beauties.
