Collecting C. J. Box
When the late Tony Hillerman read C. J. Box’s first novel, Open Season, he commented, “Buy two copies, and save one to sell to first edition collectors. C. J. Box is a great story-teller.” It was good advice. Box has won Anthony and Edgar Awards, and is a fixture on best-seller lists.

C. J. Box and A.S.A.P. Publishing
Small press publisher Jim Seels met C. J. Box at the 2003 Bouchercon, where Jim won a silent auction. The prize was having a character named for him in Box’s next book. Jim gave the honor to his wife, Mary—and there she is, in Out of Range. This led to Seels’ series of Box limited editions, illustrated by the wonderful Phil Parks.

James Lee Burke
We profiled Burke in our July 1991 issue, when it was clear that his Dave Robicheaux detective novels were among the best the genre had to offer. In course of the 18 years since, Burke has more than fulfilled his promise.
