The Meanest Streets: Dennis Lehane’s Boston
When we think about crime novels set in Boston, we usually think of Robert B. Parker. He’s gone now, but Boston still lives, and one of the best interpreters of Beantown’s mean streets is Dennis Lehane.
Hard Cases in Soft Covers
Hard Case Crime founders Charles Ardai and Max Phillips were sitting in a Japanese restaurant. Ardai had a copy of a vintage 1950s paperback, and he wondered aloud, “Why doesn’t anybody publish books like that anymore?” They decided to do it, and thus sealed their fate. Each entry in the Hard Case Crime series is a dual delight. Not only is it an excellent example of hard-edged storytelling style, but its illustrated covers make it a visual feast as well.
