Ernest K. Gann: America’s
Multi-Dimensional Man of Adventure

Gann lived the sort of life of which most mortals can only dream. He wrote 26 books, most of them best-sellers, including The High and the Mighty. His literary accomplishments represent only one of his many careers. He was also an aviator, a seafarer and an environmental activist.

American Poets of World War Two
World War Two was not a war eliciting verse of great optimism. Much of the poetry was written long after the conflict was over and the shape of the post-war world was known. There was nearly universal skepticism of verse expressing high-mindedness or boosting discredited appeals to knee-jerk patriotism and nationalism.
