Guy Gavriel Kay: Weaving Fantasy and History
He was a young philosophy student in Canada when the magic happened: J. R. R. Tolkien’s son hand-picked him to assist in assembling The Silmarillion. When that monumental task was completed, Kay began writing his own fantasies. They are complex, challenging and have greater depth and resonance than most others in the genre.

Tolkien After Tolkien
When J. R. R. Tolkien died he left behind a vast body of writing that had never been published, but which comprised the core of his life’s work. His literary executor was his son Christopher, who spent the next several decades choosing and preparing texts for publication. The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales and the massive 12-volume History of Middle-Earth series are some, but not all, of the results of Christopher Tolkien’s efforts.

Time Travel is a Round-Trip Ticket
A tribute to two masters of science fiction’s time-travel subgenre (among other things). Both made important contributions to Firsts’ early years. Both are gone now, and are sorely missed by their millions of fans.
